Who We Are
Family Promise of the Great Rivers is a homeless shelter serving families with children under 18. With a shelter in Monroe County and offices in Sparta and Black River Falls, we now serve a greater area. We began operating in 2019, but we are part of a larger affiliation with decades of experience to share with each other. What began as a small outreach in Summit, NJ, over 35 years ago is now a national initiative.

What We Do
Family Promise of the Great Rivers is a family homeless shelter offering food, clothing, life skills, and a community of people who care. Beyond our shelter, we also provide eviction prevention, shelter diversion, and long-term case management support. Our mission is to help homeless and low-income families achieve sustainable independence through a community-based response.

Why We Do It
There is a severe shortage of affordable housing in America. Our community experiences the same disparities made worse by rising rents and stagnant wages. Most families would be devastated by an unforeseen expense or emergency and could easily be thrust into a homeless situation. Our vision is a nation in which every family has a home, a livelihood, and the chance to build a better future.
